How to Care for Your Teeth After Your Whitening Treatment

How to Care for Your Teeth After Your Whitening Treatment | Bonita Grande Dental

Congratulations on your whiter, brighter smile! You've gone through the process of teeth whitening in Bonita Springs, now what can you do to keep those pearly whites nice and bright? Dr. Gostigian and his team have some suggestions for you.

Regular Brushing and Flossing

We repeat this all the time however, brushing and flossing your teeth often truly is the best way to keep your teeth white and bright. Using proper brushing techniques will remove the most plaque and food debris for excellent results. You may want to consider investing in an electric toothbrush, as they're known to remove more plaque build up and ensure that you're brushing for the full two minutes. You may also want to consider bringing a toothbrush to work, or with you while you're on the go. Brushing after every meal helps keep your teeth clean, plaque free and maintains your whitening.

Mouth Rinse

Using an antibacterial mouth rinse is a great way to help rinse food debris and bacteria from your mouth. Not only does it help to keep your mouth clean, it also provides fresh breath as a bonus. You may also want to brush with whitening and fluoride toothpaste to help protect your teeth from discoloration.

Know What You're Eating and Drinking

Certain foods tend to discolor your teeth more quickly than others. Foods and beverages that are acidic typically tend to eat away at enamel and stain your teeth. These include:

  • Coffee and tea
  • Red wine
  • Colas and Sports Drinks
  • Marinara or tomato sauce
  • Curries
  • Soy sauce

Be aware when you're eating these foods and try to rinse with water or brush your teeth afterward, in order to maintain your whitening results.

Use Take-Home Whitening Trays

Unfortunately, like anything else, whitening doesn't last forever. If you use our take-home whitening system however, you'll be able to easily update your smile whenever you like.

At Bonita Grande Dental, we'll make custom fitting take home trays that are designed to fit snugly and protect your gum tissue from excess whitening gel. You'll be able to purchase high strength whitening gel from our office any time you like. Give us a call today to have yours made.
