Many patients find conventional dentures to be burdensome, uncomfortable, or ill-fitting. Because traditional dentures can slip around in the mouth or cause discomfort, our dentist at Bonita Grande Dental recommends snap-in dentures. Snap-in dentures, also called implant-supported dentures, are more stable than conventional dentures, and they have various advantages that can enhance your oral health and wellbeing.

What Is an Implant-Supported Denture?

An implant-supported denture is a denture that is attached to and supported by dental implants. Conventional dentures rest against the gums, while implant dentures snap into place on the implant. Implant dentures fasten to your jaw, and you can remove them for cleaning or restorative care.

Benefits of Snap-In Dentures

Snap-in dentures replace missing teeth, restoring your ability to chew and speak. With this tooth loss solution, we can restore your confidence, and they reinvigorate your appearance. Other benefits include:

  • Boosts confidence
  • Improves dental hygiene
  • Preserves jaw bone health
  • Supports facial muscles
  • Customized and comfortable fit

Procedure for Implant-Supported Dentures in Bonita Springs

To make sure a snap-in denture is right for you, Dr. Michael Gostigian, DMD reviews your medical history and performs an oral examination, complete with x-rays and impressions if needed. If you are a good candidate for the procedure, we will set up a treatment plan for a day and time that’s convenient for you.

On the day of the procedure, Dr. Gostigian numbs the area, so you don’t feel any pain or discomfort, and he places the dental implant into the jaw. It takes a few months for the jaw bone to grow to the implant through a process called osseointegration. While your jaw is healing, we create a customized set of dentures that seamlessly fit the size, shape, and shade of your natural teeth.

Finally, we attach the dentures to the implants for a worry-free fit, and you can enjoy your new and improved smile!

Caring for Your Dentures

To make sure your snap-in dentures last as long as possible and remain in excellent condition, be sure to clean them daily. You can easily remove the dentures to brush and floss them, or you can leave them in the mouth while you clean them. With snap-in dentures, there is no slippage or the need for goopy denture adhesives. You can brush them gently with a denture toothbrush and a cleaning solution approved by Dr. Gostigian and then fasten them back into place.

We also recommend avoiding chewing or biting anything hard or crunchy as this can damage the denture. For example, please do not chew or bite on pens, ice, hard candies, or caramel. However, if your denture does break or crack, please let us know so we can repair it quickly for you.
