Do you struggle with bad breath? Whether you call it halitosis or dragon breath, we have all had to endure it at some point in our lives, but it’s usually associated with eating foods with strong odors like garlic and onions.
However, if you typically find your co-workers backing away from you during conversations, the solution may be as easy as stepping up your oral hygiene routine. If you want to keep your breath fresh, here are a few simple things you can do to get the most of out of your brushing routine.
- Always brush your tongue – Bacteria and food particles collect on the back of your tongue and can lead to a strong odor. Brushing it when you brush your teeth will help keep your breath fresh.
- Drink lots of water – Coffee, tobacco, alcohol, and certain medications can all lead to a dry mouth. Saliva is nature’s toothbrush because it carries away food and bacteria that cause odor, so if your mouth is dry, you will experience bad breath.
- Always brush after eating – It is essential to brush and floss twice a day, but if you are trying to combat bad breath, that may not be sufficient. If you don’t brush, the bacteria and food particles from the last meal you ate just sit on your teeth causing odor.
- Talk to your dentist – Chronic bad breath can be caused by oral health issues like gum disease and decay, or it may indicate a more serious health problem. Talk to your dentist so he or she understands your concerns and can help identify the underlying cause.
