Having a temporary dental crown can be frustrating at times, especially if it comes out on a weekend. Luckily, this is not usually a dental emergency, and there are several ways to remedy this situation on your own. The following tips will help you navigate the weekend until you are able to see your dentist in Bonita Springs for a full assessment.
What To Do If My Temporary Crown Falls Off
- Determine if your temporary dental crown is broken. Most temporary crowns come off teeth cleanly. If your temporary crown is broken, you will not be able to place it back on by yourself and will need a new one fabricated at your dentist.
- A broken temporary crown is not typically an emergency situation, so waiting until Monday to have a new one fabricated is prudent. Avoid chewing on that side for the time being. In some instances, you may experience sensitivity while the temporary dental crown is off. This is normal and occurs because the tooth is no longer covered.
- If the temporary crown fell out but is not broken, see if you are able to place it back on yourself. We recommend using toothpaste inside the dental crown. The toothpaste will dry, causing the temp to adhere to the tooth. Do not use any other materials inside the temp unless otherwise advised by your dentist. If you are able to place it back on yourself with toothpaste, there is no need to return to your dentist. If your bite feels incorrect after you replace the temp, gently remove the temp and save it for your dentist to evaluate.
