Deciding to get dental implants is a big step toward restoring your smile and confidence, but the thought of pain can create hesitation. Understanding the pain scale for dental implants can help ease your mind and set realistic expectations.
With modern techniques and compassionate care, most patients report minimal discomfort, far less than they imagined. The journey to a strong, beautiful smile is worth it, and knowing what to expect can help you feel empowered and ready to take that first step.
What Is the Pain Scale for Dental Implants?
We use a numeric scale from 1 to 10 to determine your pain after a dental implant procedure, with 1 being little to no discomfort and 10 being the worst imaginable pain.
It’s important to understand that every patient is different, but here are some general pain scale guidelines:
- Right after surgery, many patients assign a pain number of 2 or 3 and manage the discomfort with over-the-counter pain medication.
- On days 2-4, the average pain number is 4 or 5; we recommend ice packs and over-the-counter pain relievers during this time.
- After a week, most patients report a pain number of 1 or 2.
- Once healed, the pain number is generally 0.
