As the name implies, a dental restoration is a treatment like a crown that restores the function, integrity, health, and appearance of a tooth.
Millions of people currently have crowns, and you may have one or two of your own. Since crowns cover the entire tooth like a cap, they are versatile, and we can use them for everything from restoring a damaged tooth to creating a better esthetic appearance.
If you have a crown, you’re familiar with the process. But what’s really happening while you’re lying back in the dental chair? Let’s look at the steps your involved in making porcelain dental crowns in Bonita Springs:
Step 1 – Prepare the Tooth
When your final crown is cemented in place, we want it to sit naturally along your gum line. To do this, Dr. Michael Gostigian must prepare your tooth by removing a thin layer of dental enamel.
Step 2 – Take Impressions
The next step is to take impressions of your teeth that will be used to create a model for your new crown. The crown, along with any other specifications, is sent to a custom dental lab where your final crown will be fabricated.
Step 3 – Place a Temporary Crown
Fabricating a dental crown at the lab takes about two weeks. In the meanwhile, we will create a temporary crown that restores the function of the tooth.
Step 4 – Have Your Final Crown Placed
As soon as we receive your customized crown from the lab, we will have you return to our office to have it placed. We remove the temporary, check the fit of the new crown, and make any adjustments to bite as needed. The crown is polished then cemented onto the existing tooth.
You’ll leave our office with a durable esthetic restoration, and with proper care, your crown can last as long as 15 years.
